- Women’s identity through their hair
This ongoing project tells stories about women. It shows how social identities, ethnic identities and emotions can be reflected through aesthetics of women’s hair. Furthermore, it explores how this identity has been repressed throughout history as a consequence of society fears and racism.
I become part of many women’s lives by using their hair as a tool to tell their stories. It is extremely powerful to speak about femininity and the search for an identity in mestizo regions (mixed European and Amerindian ancestry) where western stereotypes set the tone. My explorations show how many women’s’ hair is able to store incredible stories of joy and frustration.
